TECHNOLOGY We have decided to use the acclaim of the Umbrella House as a platform that honors the sensibility of the mid twentieth century modernists, and expresses their pioneering spirit in terms of our twenty first century needs and technologies.
The qualities of the modernists' ground-breaking work–simplicity, modesty, clarity, responsiveness to the environment, use of light and shade, use of prevailing breezes, logic, and beauty–can be rediscovered in the Umbrella House.
By bringing these timeless qualities forward and combining them with our current focus on conservation, sustainability, alternative energy systems, and technological advances that have been developed in the last fifty years, we can locate and present new directions for and solutions to issues we, as a society, face today and in the future.
